Introduction... |
"If you play for the Blues you've got to be proud of the sweater. It is always going to be on you, so respect it and go out and play as hard as you can for it." - Barclay Plager
Established in 1967, the St. Louis Blues Hockey Team has become one of the National Hockey League's most resilient, proud and successful franchises. The team instantly tasted success as it reached the Stanley Cup Finals in it's first three seasons, thus becoming the only NHL expansion team ever to accomplish this feat.
In addition to this, some of the greatest players in NHL history have played for the Blues. Players such as hall of famers Glenn Hall, Jacques Plante, Wayne Gretzky, Dale Hawerchuk, and Grant Fuhr have all worn the Bluenote jersey at some point during their careers. Players such as Hall of Famers Bernie Federko, Al MacInnis, and Brett Hull became cornerstone players during their careers and are part of the rich history of the team.
The Blues have had to overcome many hardships and tragedies over the years as well; the team nearly folded during the early 1980's and sadly lost players Bob Gassoff, Barclay Plager, Doug Wickenheiser and broadcaster Dan Kelly.
Despite having yet to win a Stanley Cup, the St. Louis Blues are recognized as one of the NHL's most successful franchises, and are consistently one of the NHL's elite teams each season. The franchise also appeared in the playoffs 25 consecutive years from 1980-2004. This website is a historical reference dedicated to the team's history.
